GOOD NEWS? BAD NEWS? CAN'T DECIDE
Well I called my doctors office today and asked if they knew if I would be for sure starting treatment on May 14th. They can't tell me for sure so the anticipation hangs, however they don't think that the date will stick. They are waiting for the addition to the study before they can start anyone. This means that if this start date doesn't stick then I will go through the entire sickness in my stomach when another one gets near. This will make 6 times that I have had to expect to start treatment and then didn't. I don't know if they understand how hard this is on people or maybe they do and just don't care.

I've had quite a different experience waiting to start the Scherring Plough trial. 2 weeks ago, the hospital calls me at 3:30 on Wednesday afternoon an asks me if I can start treatment the next morning, not a peep from antone for the prior 6 months of waiting. I told them no to the 'next day' trick. I'm schedueled to start Thursday morning @ 10:00. I was told that was the last day S/P would allow me to start do. It sounds as though you have been moved into the next phase as i'm told S/P is adding 2 additional arms to the study
2 additional arms - this is resembling and octopus! I never knew how these studies worked - thought one hospital in one city recruited patients who could go there, never realized it was spread out like this, all over the country, different doctors.
Oh the waiting must be brutal, I feel so bad for you. Hang in there!
Hi Beth - AW, man, the waiting is killer and you've done SO much waiting with this trial! I have no doubts, though, that it will be soon. My dr.s ofc told me that only a few select sites were chosen to add the additional arms...your doc just happened to be one of those :( Even though the study paricipants are from dr. offices and clinics all over the U.S. we are all staggered in when we started the trial...yours will be soon, I'm sure. Hang in there! I wonder if it means that you will get one of the 2 new arms? Have they told you what the 2 additional arms consist of? I would think you'd have to sign a whole new consent and that the info would be disclosed...
